Clans

While not specifically made for PlayStation Home in particular, Clans was one of the game’s most used systems.

The Clans system allowed players to create and manage their clans, fostering a sense of community among players and friends.

Functionality

Clans provided various functionalities including, but not limited to:

  • Creating, updating and deleting Clans
    • Players would have to pay to create a Clan and could only make one at a time
  • Inviting players to their clan
    • Promoting (and demoting) them from roles such as SubLeader
  • Having a Clubhouse where members could meet
    • Various personal and public spaces were made as Clubhouses, available for players to purchase and use as their main clubhouse
    • Players could post announcements to the Clubhouse’s announcement board
  • Chatting in a dedicated Clan channel in the game’s chat

Technical

The Clans API consists of a RESTful HTTP API, using XML documents for requests and responses.

It is implemented in the PlayStation 3 firmware’s dynamic libraries, specifically in the libsysutil_np_clans.sprx library.

Home used firmware syscalls to interface with the library, and the game itself doesn’t contain much other than basic wrappers to communicate with the library itself.
